Ahh..  It's been a while since I typed one of these.  Figured it was time to do a housing update.

 

FYI -- I took possession Dec. 15.. work started shortly after.

 

So far, besides a week long work related glitch, I am only about a week behind.. I was hoping to be doing finish painting/floor refinishing mid-February and I still see that as an option.  So, to date:

 

*  All panelling and wallpaper has been removed from the walls. 

 

*  All carpet has been removed and tackstrips and pad and staples have been pulled

 

*  All base trim and quarter-round has been removed.

 

*  The stair corridor from the family room to the basement has new rock on it

 

*  Living Room/ Family Room/ Kitchen has been opened up w/ a 16'-0" long header home brewed out of a pair of 2x10s sandwiching a 1/2 sheet of plywood w/ enough construction adhesive and nails to build a third-world house.

 

*  Family room linoleum floor and 1/2" plywood underlayment has been taken up revealing a 1/2" plywood subfloor. 

 

*  New 10'-0" long master bedroom closet has been framed and rocked, removing approx. 2'-0" from the adjacent bedroom.. leaving it approx. 8'-0" x 11'-0"

 

*  Living room floor has been removed where the new master bath shower and public coat closet and linen closets are going.

 

*  Master Bedroom flooring has been cut back to allow for the new expanded master bathroom... Subfloor was rotten and had to be replaced due to a previous leaking master shower pan.

 

*  New framing for master bathroom and coat and linen closets near completion.

 

*  Which leads me to tonight and picking up 22 sheets of sheetrock to finish the exterior skin of the new master bath as well as to refinish the hall ceiling which is pretty nasty looking from  poor patch jobs by previous owners.

 

After the framing and sheetrock work is done:

 

*  I have to lay new hardwood floors in the family room and refinish the rest of them

 

*  create a new cable rail guardrail for the stairs and pour my concrete drink rail cap for the partial wall between the family room and dining area...

 

*  and the "duh" painting of the ceiling and walls.

 

..right on track w/ minor delays and whoopses to be expected anytime you tear into something unknown.

 

Injury List

Father -- scrapes from carpet tack strips

Me -- scrapes from carpet tack strips, cuts from utility knifes, splinters from studs, fiberglass insulation irritations, and sliced finger from taping knife.

Jeff -- 16 penny ring shank nail clean thru right index finger... bounced off 40 year old pine stud and went cleanly thru.. looks good now too... just two red dots where the hole was :-D

 

No other known injuries..

 

..except my poor maple tree got TP'd friday night... :-D.. bet my neighbors love me now that they have random toilet paper in thier yards due to my inability to get it down.

 

 

Framing

Note to self:  maintain a good first aid kit when dealing w/ a nail gun..   My friend Jeff shot his hand yesterday helping me frame a wall in my house.   a ring-shank framing nail went smack thru his right index finger ... luckily missing bone.  

 

The only injury I had to myself so far is slicing my left index finger open on a taping (aka puty) knife... and numberous knicks from pulling up carpetting tack strips for all parties involved.
