SNOW!

I love snow .... don't get me wrong... LOVE IT...

So, I got to work yesterday before the snow started... Saw it falling all day... Managed to leave in my friend's Nissan Titan for a lunch @ Oklahoma Joe's (for all you non-KC people -- That's award winning BBQ in a Gas Station/Convienence store/Liquor store... and it IS good)...  But upon return.. I pretty much told myself I wasn't leaving the office anytime soon... So, I trenched in and went to work.... Slaving away until around 8 PM before I decided to venture out into the white wonderland.

Snow...  White... Nature reclaiming her purity momentarily until it is once again gobbled up by man and his mechanized quest to conquer... In that quest, he turns beauty to disgust as the road salts and grime and sand turn that purity from white to a nasty grey color....

It took me approximately an hour to drive 20 miles North of Westport.. The roads weren't bad... but traffic at that hour was horrid....  I guess my idea didn't pan out and other's had the same idea... Stay late... UGH...  SO... After stopping for the random loaf of bread at Hy-Vee (ever been there at 9ish PM and had the store deserted besides the stockers and a couple of lone clerks??? Me either.. freaky)... and filling my car up... I went home and pretty much decided that an early morning was to be had.... I woke up at 5:30...  Great idea in theory.. except I stayed in the shower a while to wake up... and then after scrambling some eggs for a nice pair of breakfast burritos, went out to sweep 4 more inches of snow off my car...

Finally... After hitting the road about 6:25 or so.. I got into work around 7:05... I'd say 40 minutes to travel 20 miles with 8 inches of fresh POWDER isn't too shabby... but that was still leaving at 6:25....  I'm glad I did.. I can't imagine traffic now.. :-)

So here I am... bundled up in my brown wool fisherman's sweater, jeans and my pack boots... at work... and there are a grand total at 8:00 am of 3 other people in the office :-)  I have a strong feeling that today will be rather light...  A lot of people taking off because of thier kids not having class.

Speaking of which...  Liberty NEVER let out of school when I was a kid.. EVER...  It could have no power in 3/4 of the city, a blanket of 4 inches of ice and -30 degrees windchill... and because we had a super intendant from Nebraska.. we never got out... If he could walk to the end of his driveway, we had school.   Now, in the days of super litigation and pansy kids and administrations, they call off school when it hit's zero.. or there is a predicted flake of snow to fall..  To bad... I take pride in the fact that I can and have lived through snow hells and have that tale to tell of walking up hill both ways to and from school :-)

I found your other blog! :) Man I have way to much time on my hands... or is that I'm wasting time reading blogs rather than reading about Church History, Theology and Hebrew... either way - I HAD TO COMMENT on this particular entry... In Kentucky, they called school off early because it was raining... I'M NOT KIDDING - It was raining - not sleeting, not icing, A POSSIBILITY of freezing temperatures later on in the night around midnight.... but we better let the kids out early since it's raining... WTF? You're killin' me smalls...killin' me...
